March 3rd 2008 - In Recognition of a National Hero - Host of Let's Talk Bree, dedicated this show to one of Anguilla's Hero often referred to as the "father of the Nation" Mr James Ronald Webster.
It was a wonderful mood in the studio as the life and times of the Anguilla Revolution hero were explored. Mr Webster celebrated his 82nd birthday on Mar 2nd and Let's Talk saw it fit to use the occasion to inform listeners about the contributions of this man to modern day Anguillian society as we know it.
Ronald Webster was a well respected Anguillian politician and served as Chief Minister from feb 10th 1976 - Feb 1st 1977 and again from May 1980 to Mar 12th 1984.
The next time you hear the name Ronald Webster, or you get to visit the Ronald Webster Park in the Valley, Anguilla, you will have a better idea about just who this man is and his contributions to Anguillian society. The Ronald Webster Park is a multi-use stadium in The Valley, Anguilla. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds up to 4,500 people.
In 1967, with British agreement, St. Kitts called for independent statehood in association with Nevis and Anguilla. The Anguillans preferred colony status over dominance by St. Kitts and therefore refused to participate in the new state.
Under the leadership of Ronald Webster they were beginning to experience pride in their own heritage, landscape, and customs. They were not prepared to compromise that pride under the strong arm of St. Kitts.
So began a determined but peaceful revolution, with an appeal to the United Nations for the establishment of nation status and a separate flag for Anguilla.
Mr James Ronald Webster - Hero of The Anguilla Revolution, and Father of the Nation.
