March 10th 2008 - The Optimist Club of Anguilla - It was all about service to the community, positive thinking, and uplifting words as the President of The Optimist Club on Anguilla Mr Jerome Roberts sat down with Let's talk for the hour.
Mr Roberts explained that the main purpose of the club is to encourage the development of youth, in the belief that the giving of one's self in service to others will advance the well being of humankind, community life and the world.
The Optimist Creed was explored and all the points in the creed were explained by Mr Roberts. His explanations were gentle, eyeopening, and conforting. We believe the Optimist Creed so compelling that we have posted it here for you.
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person To make all your friends feel that there is something in them
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true
To think only the best, to work only for the best and expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize other
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, to strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble
The Optinist creed contains valuable insight for living a life free from strife and in harmony with our fellow humans.
The club is also very active in HIV awareness and has made donations to local HIV organizations. Mr Roberts was of the opinion that more needs to be done to educate children about HIV AIDS. It is his wish that HIV education be made part of the schools curriculum, and that the churches will also get involved and begin educating members about the deadly disease.
Mr Roberts envisions a future where the Optimist Club will be able to stand firm and take it's rightful place in nation Building.
